The EPSS application resides between a billing system and the Electroline Control Unit. Its role is to schedule and manage promotional periods for cable TV service on an Electroline addressable tap, without affecting the customer’s bill.
The EPSS Server communicates with the Electroline Control Unit and with a third-party billing system. The communication links can be over RS-232 or over a TCP/IP network.
EPSS has two parts: a Server application and a Web application. It uses a database to store the list of promotions and service status data. The Server application runs on the computer where the physical connections are made and where the database resides. The Web application allows a user—once he is logged in—to set up promotions from any computer that has access to the EPSS server.
